Discovering Spain

New York and Florida were good experiences but for my next travel adventure I want to visit Spain. My sister has been living there for a few years, only coming home once in a while as well as going to New York to work. Next summer I would like to visit her and experience Spain. I’ve never been on a plane before so that would be something new also. I’m scared but yet so excited to see all the different views and the way they live there.

One of the events there that I have heard a lot about is the running of the bulls. This happens in the summer where they let about a dozen bulls loose in the streets and people run in front of them. My sister said she has watched some of it take place but I still don’t understand why they would want to do something that crazy and dangerous. This event originated in Pamplona, Spain and was started as a way to get the bulls to the bullring. As the event became more popular it became a tradition that still stands today. Though I thought this event was interesting, I don’t know if I would be able to even watch it because of all the things that could happen.

Another thing I want to experience is all the beautiful sights. The cities a very compact and the streets look very narrow. My sister said that many people walk instead of using vehicles. One of Spain’s most popular attractions is a large Roman Catholic Church located in Barcelona. The construction on this church started in 1882 and is still not finished.

Sagrada Familia Even though I don’t speak the best Spanish I did have a few classes in high school that helped. Going there will help me better understand their culture and expand on the language. The food they eat there is mostly rice and beans from what my sister said. Those aren’t my favorite things to eat but I would adjust for the time that I’m there. I would love to learn how they live differently from the U.S. but also how they are like us.

I’m really hoping I can go to Spain next year to learn more about it and of course to visit my sister. She’s been there for a while so she can show me new things there and tell me what I should know well staying there. I can also learn from the people there and maybe travel to other European countries after that.
